Gears+ Limited will actively encourage the involvement of volunteer workers. It does not consider voluntary work a substitute for paid youth work. Volunteers must complete the ‘Volunteer Application Form’. Volunteers will be appointed in line with the Organisations Equal Opportunities Policy. All volunteers must be CRB checked in line with GEARS+ Ltd practice. Volunteers should have a clear understanding of the tasks they are being asked to perform and the responsibility that goes with these tasks. Volunteers will only take up post after an interview has taken place at which the volunteers rights and obligations are explained. Where volunteers are to be involved in specific projects or activities, a programme of work will be negotiated. Hours/days/times of work should be agreed prior to joining the staff team as should the period of involvement in the organisation. GEARS+ Ltd will take up references for volunteer workers. Volunteers will have access to paid positions in the same manner as all other applicants to posts. A volunteer must abide by all policies and guidelines of the Organisation. Volunteers will receive support and supervision and will have regular access to their line manager/supervisor. Volunteers will receive a period of induction and have access to appropriate training. The relationship between volunteers and paid staff should be mutually beneficial. Volunteers have the right to take part in the decision-making, planning and evaluation process GEARS+ Ltd Volunteers should not be expected to work on their own. Volunteers will receive the same safeguards from risk as are awarded to paid staff including public liability insurance cover and, where appropriate, personal accident cover. Volunteers will receive appropriate clothing and safety equipment in the same manner as applies to paid staff. Should a volunteer have a grievance, which they cannot resolve with a line manager, they will have access to the Chief Executive Officer.
