GMP Dog Unit visits GEARS+

GEARS+ continues to have a good ongoing relationship with the GMP.

Officers from the Greater Manchester Police Dog Handling Unit attended Gears+ in May 09 to give a full demonstration of working police dogs in action.

The session was interactive and extremely successful with the students asking lots of questions. It highlighted the importance of police dogs and their roles within the  force. Working wiith cases such as missing person searches, tracking criminals, locating drugs and explosives, and victim recovery to name a few, police dogs are a valid member of the force.

A group of pupils from Albion High School attended the session. Two organised drug searches were performed sucessfully and the pupils were given the chance to pet the energetic and friendly dogs and ask the officers any questions.

GEARS+ also took the opportunity to incorporate drugs and drink and drive issues within this session, with practical driving simulator sessions.
