Congratulations to Salford Young Peoples Pedal Power who successfully completed the 63 miles Manchester to Blackpool cycle race on Sunday 13th July 2008. A rewarding day was had by all who took part and helped raise over £1000 for Christies Hospital. This was a fantastic achievement for the GEARS+ and Olivers Youth Club partnership.

It was a long and challenging day for the team starting with early morning breakfast at GEARS+ before heading into Manchester for the starting line. The overall experience proved to be a real eye opener for our young people who were proud to be given the opportunity to participate and make a big difference for such a worthy cause.

This certainly paid off on the day as all 10 members of the group completed the testing 63 miles. Which just goes to show with positive support and determination the young people of salford can really achieve great things!

Additional support for the venture was provided by Child Action Northwest, "It was a fantastic experience to support and see the young people complete the full race. We are looking forward to supporting the group next year", said Lee Turnbull (Child Action Northwest).

"This was the first partnership of its kind and it is hoped that there will be many more to follow" said Trish Bartlett, Chief Executive of GEARS+. mcr to blackpool

The group will be celebrating their fantastic achievement with a meal later in the month and are all looking forward to competing in the race again next year.
